What Did You REALLY Come Here For?

Surely, this woman needs no introduction.  At a time when hand-drawn animation was on the back end of its shelf life and only a few short years away from being phased out of theaters and mostly relegated to the direct-to-video scene, Dreamworks graced theaters with "The Road to El Dorado".  While an entertaining, if not particularly original film, the movie definitely turned a lot of heads with the introduction of Chel.

Most boys, when they reach double digits in age, eventually runs into their "Jessica Rabbit"...that one female who makes them realize that cartoon characters can make them all hot and bothered.  And in 2000, that woman was most DEFINITELY Chel.  But Chel was also a little more unique.  Granted, she was scantily-clad, but she was also built different.  She was more on the plump side than most of her contemporaries, with wide hips and thick legs.  And yet, that quality was more subdued.  She wasn't a "Dexter's Mom" or a "Mei-Ling Zhao", whose designs were out there and in your face and you knew exactly where your gaze was supposed to be focused.  With Chel, you knew there was something about this girl, but you couldn't quite put your finger on it right away, which ultimately made her even more endearing.

Anyway, on to the image at hand.  At the tme of this posting, my work schedule is pretty hectic this week.  But for the last couple of months, I'd been sticking to my goal of putting out regular artwork postings.  So if I wanted to keep that streak alive, I had to go with a relatively simple image that I knew I could bang out in just a few short hours.  So I decided to go with a pic of Chel, who I'd been thinking about drawing for a while.  After all, Chel is one of those girls that I think everyone wants to draw at least once.  And since I really didn't feel like drawing a background, I simply cobbled one together, using material from actual screenshots of the movie.

All-in-all, I'm REALLY happy with how this image turned out.  Considering that I'd never drawn Chel before, I personally think I nailed it.  Even I was surprised at how good it ultimately turned out.  Hopefully, you all feel the same.  As always comments are appreciated.

Enjoy. ^_^
